ACTFL AI Corner Classroom: Are Your Students AI Fluent? Moving from Overreliance to Engagement

Sat, 11/21: 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM CST
Session
Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center
Room: ACTFL AI Corner Classroom, Exhibit Halls 2-3
Students may know how to use AI, but many still struggle to use it in ways that support meaningful language learning. This session introduces a simple instructional framework for designing AI-supported activities that foster student AI fluency through inquiry, reflection, communication, and critical engagement. Participants will see examples of short language-learning tasks that guide students to ask stronger questions, interact thoughtfully with AI, and use AI as a support for communication rather than answer generation. Participants will also receive a student guide to language learning with AI along with the activity-design framework shared during the session. During the hands-on support session, participants will apply the framework to adapt or create an AI-supported learning activity for their own instructional context.
