Content and Purpose:
Participants will engage in a variety of interactive interpersonal and presentational tasks that mirror those experienced by students on the AP/IB language exams. These activities are scaffolded and adapted to suit learners at novice through intermediate-mid proficiency levels, ensuring accessibility and meaningful skill development. By experiencing these tasks firsthand, participants, will gain practical insights into effective strategies for fostering student success in high-stakes assessments while promoting language profiency growth. Examples will be in English, German & Spanish.
Outcomes:
Analyze Communication Strategies:
Participants will review and apply strategies to help students of all proficiency levels engage effectively with the interpersonal and presentational modes of communication.
Understand and Scaffold AP/IB Tasks:
Participants will evaluate the success criteria for AP/IB exam tasks and enhance their ability to design scaffolded activities that prepare novice and intermediate-level students for pre-AP/pre-IB coursework.
Develop Actionable Plans: Participants will explore best practices and activities that will strengthen students' classroom performance and readiness of World Language exam tasks.
Audience Engagement:
Participants will engage in a variety of activities and debrief as how it could be modified for their particular needs and discuss ways to implement the activity into their classrooms and their students' different proficiency levels.
Interpersonal communication activities include: "Let's Rumble" "Ask Me" "Line Speak"
Presentational communication activities include: "1,2,3,4 ...20" "Line Speak" (presentational variation), "The Most Important Word"
