Content and Purpose:

Listening comprehension is one of the most challenging skills for 6-12 Chinese language learners, especially when faced with tonal complexity authentic audio. This roundtable addresses these challenges through a discussion grounded in second language acquisition theories such as Krashen's Input Hypothesis, Sweller's Cognitive Load Theory, and Schmidt's Noticing Hypothesis. Integrating findings from private and public school classroom practice and key research, this session proposes scaffolded strategies such as segmenting audio, using visual supports and AI tools, and implementing metacognitive listening exercises. Participants will explore how to adapt authentic materials to match proficiency levels and how to design tasks that blend top-down and bottom-up listening processes. This proposal provides innovative solutions to improve listening instruction and equips educators with actionable insights, useful AI tools, and authentic audio resources to enhance student proficiency.
