Abstract:
How do you provide access to an archive when its community doesn't know it exists? When the Graduate School of Business centennial planning committee reached out to the library for support they were unaware that an archive even existed. This opportunity provided the library with the chance to improve the visibility and accessibility to the archives, increase community engagement with the history of the school, and bring together diverse stakeholders to promote the archive as a resource for faculty, staff, and students. We overcame many challenges, including bringing together diverse stakeholders with vast differences in knowledge, expertise, and goals, to create an interactive project in under a year.
The target audience is archivists and librarians at academic institutions who work in both digital and physical archives. Archivists working on time bound projects that involve an exhibition component.
The presenters will be engaging attendees through discussion of the various elements of the poster. This includes building new policies and procedures, creating new archives workflows, bringing diverse departments together, overcoming departmental differences, and building a creative experience through the use of archives.
Short Description:
Previous historical projects at the GSB have focused more on the privileged experience. The GSB history timeline available on the GSB Library website focuses on the school deans, who have all been white men. While this poster will highlight the lack of diversity at Stanford over the last 100 years, it will also reflect how the GSB has changed and become more diverse over time.
