Abstract:
Posterior crossbite is defined as an inadequate transversal relationship of maxillary mandibular teeth, does not have a spontaneous correction and should be treated as early as possible. Slow or rapid maxillary expansions are used to correct the posterior crossbite malocclusion. This case report illustrates the interceptive orthodontic treatment of a female with a class II subdivision malocclusion associated to a functional posterior unilateral crossbite. Patient used Quad Helix expander and was treated by means of slow maxillary expansion and the occlusion and face results were evaluated before and after the orthodontic treatment. The correction of functional posterior crossbite malocclusion for normal transversal maxillary mandibular relationship occurred by the interceptive orthodontic treatment. Slow maxillary expansion by means of Quad Helix appliance could be performed to treat the functional posterior unilateral crossbite malocclusion.
